System Requirement
Installation
Using SmartBOL for the
first time
System Requirement
Hardware: Pentium
4, AMD equivalent or better, 512MB RAM, 100MB free
disk space, Monitor with 1024x768 or higher
resolution
Windows: Windows
2000 with Service Pack 4 and Internet Explorer 6,
Windows XP Service Pack 2 or 3, 2003 server or Vista.
For installing SmartBOL Classic or
Enterprise on network, Windows Terminal Server or
Citrix, review licensing
policy here.
Installation
Important
Notes:
-
If SmartBOL Classic or
Enterprise is already installed on the machine,
backup data files
from data folder and uninstall SmartBOL.
-
If you are upgrading to
newer version, make sure that your support
contract is active. Newer version of SmartBOL may
not work with older keys. In addition, SmartBOL
will upgrade your data files and may make them
unusable with your earlier version.
-
QuickBooks Interface on
Terminal Server: Install SmartBOL from console
otherwise it will not work with QuickBooks.
Installation Steps:
Each machine, SmartBOL
Classic or Enterprise software is installed on, must
be licensed. Refer to SmartBOL licensing
policy here.
Classic version:
Run SmartBOL installer from CD or downloaded
file. Accept all defaults. After installation is
complete, double click on the SmartBOL icon on the
desktop and enter (preferably, copy and paste) name
and key when prompted.
Network Install:
After running SmartBOL at least once on one of the
machines, create a shared folder on this or another
machine. On this folder, grant read and write
permissions to all Windows users that are using
SmartBOL (very important). Copy dbd2.mdb,
dbm2.mdb, dbuser2.mdb and, if present, dbexport.mdb to
the shared folder. Open SmartBOL and set data file
location to this folder and restart SmartBOL. If
"error while saving" is displayed, you do not have
proper folder permissions. Contact your network
administrator.
Enterprise version:
Step 1:
Install SmartBOL Enterprise (First
client)
A. With SQL
Server 2008 R2 Express: Navigate
to appropriate folder in CD or extract
and navigate to downloaded zip file. Run
installer. Important:
Select mixed authentication mode and set
sa password. Go to Step
2.
B. With
existing SQL Server 2000, 2005, 2008 /
R2:
Run SmartBOL installer from CD or downloaded file.
Accept all defaults. Use this installer
for additional SmartBOL clients.
Step 2: Setup
Database
Run Admin Tool
from Start - All Programs - ADi
SmartBOL. Select Create
Databases, and enter database
information. All databases will be
created and a configuration file will be
created. Run SmartBOL by double clicking
SmartBOL icon on the desktop.
SmartBOL
Enterprise (Additional Clients):
Run SmartBOL installer from Step 1(B).
Copy configuration file (sbconf.cfg)
from the first client to the same
directory location in the additional
client machines.
